Lake Allatoona
Spotted Bass Tagging Study
Chance to Win a
Georgia Lifetime Sportsman’s License!
In 2006, with the support and
cooperation of The
Allatoona Team Tournament trail, the Georgia Department
of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division had a
very successful Spotted Bass Tagging program (see 2006/2007 award
presentation details in DNR
Corner). The DNR will
again be tagging 1,000
spotted bass in Lake Allatoona this spring (2007). Anglers catching a tagged fish
are encouraged to clip the tag off close to where it goes into the fish (do
not try to pull the tag out) and call the phone number on the tag to report
the capture.
Anglers returning tags from spotted bass will be
entered into a 2008 drawing for a Georgia Lifetime Sportsman’s License
(License courtesy of the
Allatoona Team Tournament).
The information
collected during the study will allow us to assess spotted bass survival in
Lake Allatoona. Of particular interest is the fate of larger spotted bass
in the reservoir. Allatoona has large numbers of spotted bass, but average
size tends to be smaller in comparison to other Georgia spotted bass lakes.
This study will determine if natural mortality or harvest mortality is the
reason larger spotted bass are at a premium in Lake Allatoona.
What to Do if You Catch a Tagged Fish?
Step 1 – CUT THE TAG OFF,
regardless of whether you release or keep the fish.
Step 2 – Please call the phone number on the tag
(706-857-3394) to report the tag information.
Step 3 – Mail the tag back to the address instructed.
You must mail the tag back to be included in the drawing for the lifetime
license.
THE
THANKS
YOU FOR PARTICIPATING
