   06/02/08: Before the tournament began, there was an important ceremony at Victoria boat ramp.  It has a very inspiring background/story and you guys (all you Monday Nighters) should be proud that you actually played a part in this as well.  As part of the traditional Monday Night Tournament's "give back to community" effort, among other things, the trail had donated money in the past years to DNR to use to encourage anglers to help report their catch of spotted bass during the Lake Allatoona Spotted Bass Tagging Study effort.  An angler named Brian Doyle (internet code name itry) caught a tagged spotted bass and turned it in to DNR.  After the DNR drew out the winner, Brian won the Georgia Sportman's Lifetime License. This license entitles the holder to hunt & fish FREE for the rest of his/her life.  Brian, a generous and quiet and soft spoken person who also has a heart made of gold had offered it to one of the men in Sorefinger, oops, I mean Soretoe (Lou Costello) son's platoon who are combating enemies in Iraq.  Soretoe, a veteran himself and an avid local angler, started the adopt a soldier program (where angler adopts a soldier in Soretoe son's platoon) not that long ago on First Bite's forum and Brian was well aware of it - thus the offer.  Well, only problem with that is that there are no Georgia residents in that platoon and Soretoe son does not hunt or fish.  After a brief discussion Brian still insisted on giving it to a soldier that has served in Iraq.  Soretoe did some research and came up with giving it to a member of the Georgia National Guard, 48th Infantry Brigade.  Mr. Travis Lawson was with the brigade when it was deployed to Iraq. During its deployment this unit sustained numerous casualties as it encountered the enemy. It was at a time when there were no “safe” places to be in Iraq. He is the individual that was selected to receive the Life Time License.  And so before the tourney began, the presentation of the license took place on the edge of the lake!  From left to right Jim Hakala the GA DNR Fisheries Biologist, Brian Doyle, Jeff McEntyre (current director), Mr. & Mrs. Travis Lawson, Mike Loner & Cowboy (previous directors), and Jamey McEntyre (current director).  And here's a clearer picture of the recipients.  From all of us, thank you Brian and Mr. & Mrs. Travis Lawson! and congratulations.

  On the tournament, it was another surprisingly tough night for many.  The winning weight was only 8.55 lbs - the smallest winning sack so far this year.  And the winning team was Dusty Woodall & Mike Whitfield.  They might not thought they had a winning bag when they came in for the weigh in.  Allatoona can always surprise you any day of the year, believe it!  And they also won the infamous side-bet pot as well.  Great job guys.  You deserve it.  Congratulations.   The big bass winners are Bard Chapman & Joel Bryant.  Though they brought in only 2 fish, one of the 2 was the one that counted!  It was a 4.28 lbs fish - biggest of the night.  Very nice job y'all.  Congratulations.
